Reward Ride

Sunday, August 26, 2012

I don't often like to look at a ride as something I need to earn, after all, it is my right to ride, right? Anyway, today we had some chores to get done, so the ride needed to wait until they were done. First off was to get the refrigerator out of the garage, and cleaned up to put on Craig's List. Then I had to fix the vacuum cleaners, yep, they get jammed up with enough we need a back up. Then a quick shower, some lunch, and it was AIS (Ass In Seat) time!

I know it has been over a month since my last entry, and I have been riding, but most of the rides have been work related, so nothing to really report.

As for today, we started by leaving Danville on the newly opened State Road 39. Part of the reconstruction including two bridges, so the road has been closed for a while. The fresh pavement meant a smooth ride until the town of Clayton. Some major work going on in town, including the leg from Clayton to US 40.

We headed south out of town, and joined US 40. We headed east, past the unmarked police car sitting in the median, to re-join SR 39, and head south for Monrovia. We then started west on SR 42.

Not many curves, more turns, the 90 degree variety, on this stretch until we get past Cloverdale. Here it snakes around Cagle Mill Lake. The curves get tighter, and the road gets more tree lined. We crossed a lot of creeks and streams that were nearly dry.

Eventually we met up with SR 59. Here we stopped for gas, never knew Ranger Stations named their gasolines, so I filled up the steed with Ranger Mustang.  We took off north on SR 59, crossing over I-70, and making out way into Brazil, Indiana. Thought about dropping in on the Bridgeton Mill, but I am sure the Mill Owner is long passed tired, and the mill closed.

I found Greencastle Road, and we began heading east. Good thing this is a beautiful, and curvaceous road, because it is falling in bad shape. We bounced our way through, passing the Big Rocky Fork Covered Bridge. We pulled into Greencastle, and cruised through half of town until we stopped at the Dairy Castle. Yeah, I know, getting Ice Cream is a Gold Wing Thing to do, but it sounded like a good idea. Not to self, order a small or less size cone, I almost needed a ladder to eat the thing!

We headed on east out of town on US 240. Next we headed north on SR 75. After passing through Coatsville, we took a turn east, and headed toward Amo, Indiana. We meandered through the small town, got a wave a from a friendly older gentleman. We were heading north until we got to County Road 150 South, which we took east. After a few jogs, we ended up on CR 100 South, which leads us into Danville passed the middle school.

There is always satisfaction in a good ride, but a little bit more in a ride earned.
