GOE XIX, Day 3: Rodney's, Niagara Falls, and the Anti-Menu

Father's Day, June 21st, 2015

We started out father's day cool, but dry. We would take it! We fueled up with the complementary breakfast at the Comfort Inn, and then fueled the bikes at the gas station across the street from the hotel. The real part of the ride started north on State Road 60.

We then turned  right, and headed north and east along Lake Erie, on SR 127. We got a few good views of the lake, but thick air made it hard to see to far out. Also, lots of houses were dotted along the shoreline. As we neared Buffalo, the homes started going upscale, although, every once in a while, an older house still stood.

We spilled back out on State Road, and after a short jaunt, we arrived at Rodney's Restaurant, and empty parking lot. We found out that they don't open until noon, we had arrived at eleven, since that is when their website said they opened. So we headed back down the road to a city park on the beach. We still couldn't see to far across the water, until the sun came out. Then the air thinned, and we could see the choppy water. We also had a volleyball game for enjoyment. There were two lifeguards on duty, but not a swimmer to be seen!

We headed back up to the eatery, and they were open, and we went to grab a seat, actually we ate outside. The meal didn't disappoint. No shirts or anything else for memorabilia, just the receipt.

After our later lunch, that was actually on time, but later than our schedule. We headed to Buffalo. State Road 5 and Interstate 185 took us through town, and right to Niagara Falls. Their was a festival going on, so our original parking plan didn't work. After touring the area, we rode to Goat Island for parking. I guess it is named after a stubborn goat that survived a flood.

You would think after all the water that fell from the sky, we wouldn't want to this much water. Then again, it is Niagara Falls. We found a good deal, the trolley ride is three bucks a person, and you can ride all day. We ventured out on the tower, then a gift shop, and some ice cream. We made our way to another vantage point, where you could really see the water rushing over the falls. It was actually getting quite warm. We returned to the bike, and then started our way out of town.

State Road 104 runs along the Canadian Border, then veers to the east. This would be the road that would take us all the way into Rochester. The Holiday Inn was not far from the highway, so we pulled in. Though we had not ridden all that much, we were too tired to ride any more. Not that the adventure for the day had ended.

An IHOP was across the parking lot, so we headed over for dinner. We were greeted by the hostess warning us of all the items they had run out of that day.We were game to eat anyway. We sat down and had a fun time talking to the hostess. We told her our orders, and told her to tell the cooks to come as close as they can come, and surprise us. They did a great job! We had variations of what we ordered, and that was fine with us. The food was good, and we had a good story to tell.

Tomorrow we would make our way to Lake George, but not without another food adventure - stay tuned!
