Soup Run 2007, Day Two: Soup from the Skies, and Heavenly Soup

Saturday, June 1st, 2007: Soup Day!

So the morning started out watching the radar. I know Mr. Soup had the meal ready, as he always does, but when i woke up this morning, the Soup was falling from the sky!! It was right over, and heading right over Fond Du Lac.

Satisfied that the weather would pass before we got to our destination, the three of us headed north. I was hoping the roads I picked were more county type highways, but we spent most of the time on what I would call super slabs. There were some scenic parts, such as when we got close to Dundee, Wisconsin. We were riding through the Kettle Moraine Park. Tree lined, meandering roads prevailed, and the bike was gripping the half dry roads well. At one point, after a wooden bridge crossing for a trail in the park, I saw a badger at the edge of the woods. Shortly after, the road opened to a prairie.

We arrived at Dundee, Wisconsin, yeah it is a small town! But a family that lives there was featured on ABC's Extreme Home Makeover. Apparently, that is what has put this town on the map!! Mostly motorcycles, as there was Sport Bike Racing in Elkhart Lake, and a Harley open house in Milwalkee. They built a beautiful house, but it also blended in well with the rest of the town. There was a lot of activity, as one of the daughters was getting married in the back yard. After checking out the mill, we left for soup.

We were only 25 miles out, but we would stop after going 20 miles through Wisconsin Dairy Land. Why? The dark skies that loomed above! We put on our rain gear, pulling over on a side street behind another rider. He had no rain gear, and was looking to wait it out. A pair on Harley's also pulled up, put on their gear, and took off quickly.

We began the last 6 miles, and it wasn't long before the rain began, and we passed a accident of a dump track flipped on its top!! The rain increase, but I was still dry inside the suit. We turned on County Road UU, and wound our way to Mr. Soup's.

There were some riders there, and for the first time, I got to park in the driveway! Everyone huddled under the tents, or the entry of his home. The rain would let up eventually, and sun would eventually come out!!

After the soup, we ventured out, leaving about half the attendees still there. We suited up in our rain gear, as it looked like the skies would pour on us once again.

We made a stop for gas, and then hit rain, it was light, and didn't last long. Shortly after, we hit dry pavement!! It was like a line just went through, but missed this area. We made a brief stop at the Mars Cheese Castle, we will be returning tomorrow to make purchases.

The hotel was only about 5 minutes from the Cheese Castle, so we returned in short order. I went out to have dinner, ate too much!!

Tomorrow, it is breakfast at Frank's Place, return to the Cheese Castle, and then heading home. Another Soup Run is almost complete!!
